With Miami’s growing tech and entrepreneurial community making waves in recent years, the city is also building a social media community to tackle the needs of the public and private sectors. The Miami social media scene is sprouting local agencies, startups and freelancers as a result of this evolution. In turn, the demand for organized events, conferences and seminars is growing as well. Here’s a list of some of the major social media events taking place in Miami this year.


SMDayMiamiSocial Media Day

When: June 28, 2015


Where: Hyatt Regency Pier 66


Social Media Day is an international holiday started by Mashable celebrating the prominence of social media in our lives. Cities around the world take part in this one-day event by gathering to share insightful knowledge and tips about the industry. South Florida’s event will feature over 25 speakers and is expected to draw hundreds of social media professionals and enthusiasts. This year’s Social Media Day will be hosted in Fort Lauderdale at the Hyatt Regency hotel with events starting at noon. For more info and tickets, visit the official website.

[UPDATE – 7/3/15]: Mashable featured South Florida in their coverage of how the world celebrated Social Media Day. The article stated, “Things got social in South Florida, where Social Media Day 2015 attracted 423 guests and 25 speakers who discussed the impact digital media has made through workshops, conferences and a happy hour. It didn’t take long for #SMDSFL to become the number one hashtag in Miami.”

When: July 18, 2015


Where: Florida International University


In it’s inaugural year, Florida Social Conference (FL Social Con) will take place at FIU’s main campus – inside the Graham Center. Attendees will be able to learn, network, and connect around several social media topics. Both national and local speakers will be presenting at FL Social Con with talks taking place between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM. You can expect to meet industry pros, small business owners, bloggers, and plenty others.

When: September 14-18, 2015


Where: Miami Ad School


Social Media Week Miami is the largest social media conference in South Florida, spanning five days in September. The event takes place on a global scale as different cities host their own versions under a unified theme – this year it’s “Upwardly Mobile: The Rise of The Connected Class”. The conference will bring top social experts and influencers from around the country, likeSean Gardner and Glen Gilmore. Last year, the conference featured Ted Rubin, Kim Garst and Pam Moore – all of which are power players in the industry. The event will be held at the newly relocated Miami Ad School in the heart of Wynwood.

Social Media: Speed Networking

When: October 13, 2015


Where: Manadrin Oriental


This event combines the executive round table with speed networking for a dynamic and fast-paced conversation. Each table will be led by social media professionals that will moderate 15 minute discussions. Attendees have the opportunity to pick three different topics of interest during the course of the event.


This event is being hosted by the Social Media Association at FIU, NoBe Mixer & Florida Social Con.

Social Media Club of South Florida (SMCSF) Meet-Ups


South Florida’s local social media club hosts monthly meet-ups (most of which are free) that offer useful tips and resources on an array of topics. The community is also actively engaged online via their official Facebook Group. You can learn more about their upcoming events and connect with other local pros by joining the group page.
