Instagram Stories for Business: 5 Strategic Tips

Instagram Stories for Business: 5 Strategic Tips

  |   Social Media

On August 2, Instagram introduced a new, familiar feature: Instagram Stories.

Instagram Stories let’s you share all the moments of your day through multiple photos and videos, known as your story. Similar to Snapchat Stories, the photos and videos posted to your story will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your Instagram profile.

With Instagram Stories, you won’t have to worry about posting twice (or more) in a day. Share what you want, as much as you want – whenever.
Although Instagram Stories does not boast your favorite dog filter or face-swapping feature, you can still bring your story to life with text and drawing tools.

At this point, you’re probably asking yourself how you should use Instagram Stories to interact with your followers. Or perhaps you’re sweating at the thought of having to create additional content on social.

Well, don’t fret. Instagram Stories is here to stay. With more than 500 million active accounts and 300 million daily users, Instagram’s impact on your social media strategy is undeniable.

So, your brand has a large following, now what?

Here are a few ways to use Instagram Stories to engage followers and attract new ones with Instagram exclusive content:

Like Snapchat, Instagram Stories lends itself to the opportunity of sharing personalized content with your followers.

Doing so allows your brand to share its personality with your audience. Followers will have a chance to learn more about your brand, and even get to know the people that keep your business running.

Behind-the-scenes footage also allows viewers to feel personally connected with your brand because they are able to see a new side of your business.

2. Tease Content

Do you have an upcoming product launch or campaign? Tease your audience with a sneak peek of upcoming content on your story. Share a tidbit to build anticipation, and follow-up by encouraging followers to stay tuned for the rest of the story.

Take a look at the Team USA Instagram page. During its Olympic coverage, the account has been using Instagram Stories to share Team USA’s upcoming features on the TODAY show, and much more.

Instagram Stories is a useful tool to remind your followers of upcoming events, or invite them to attend. Post a short video or image reminding your audience about the event, and make it more engaging by adding some quirky text or drawings.

Don’t forget to provide basic information, such as date, time and location in your posts. You may also direct followers to other platforms for more information.

If possible, provide live coverage of the event on your story to cater to those viewers who are not able to make it in person.

Here’s a great example of Power 96, Miami’s Party Station, taking full advantage of Instagram Stories to promote an upcoming Jay Sean performance.

If you want to build brand loyalty and increase sales, make your audience feel special. Provide unique discount codes or Instagram-only contests to keep followers engaged and interested in your brand.

Your followers will only see the promotion or contest if they open your Instagram story, so make it exclusive.
